The Oil Shale industry. Royal Scottish Geographical Society visit.

A presentation in the making describing the project work undertaken by CRCT volunteers, greatly helped by Alcan Aluminium (UK) Ltd and Fife Council.

Thank you to all the funders that have supported us.

Craigencalt has a fascinating history and the two mills that survive (from sixteenth and eighteenth century) are there to be seen.  This presentation was our first shot.  We have much more information now so really need to compile another book!

The presentation describes the geological history of the loch and area from violent volcanic eruptions over 300 million years ago to a thousand foot deep ice sheet scraping across the land.  More recently it describes the pollution history and splendid recovery of the loch.

A presentation covering the Oil Shale mining and refining of the late nineteenth century including the relics that can still be found and its social history.  Also the effect of the industry on producing safe products and conserving whales and seals.

A walk-and-talk tour of the heritage, geology, topography and environmental treasure that the area offers.  Intended as a comprehensive and technical appraisal.
